Person of the Year

Miguel Garza, Co-Founder & CEO, Siete Foods

Truthfully, it’s a family affair. But the face of Siete Foods is Miguel Garza, its 30-something CEO and co-founder, who led the business to its $1.2 billion sale to PepsiCo this year.

Garza co-founded the brand a decade ago with his sister, Veronica, and their mother, Aida. Veronica Garza had adopted a grain-free diet to manage symptoms of multiple autoimmune conditions, yet she craved the culinary staples of her family’s culture. Tinkering in the kitchen led to the creation of a tortilla crafted with almond flour that quickly became a favorite among the local Hispanic community, marking the beginning of the business. From there it expanded with scores of products formulated with premium ingredients like avocado oil, cassava flour, ground chia seeds and coconut sugar.

Today, Siete Foods produces a broad assortment of tortillas, salsas, seasonings, sauces, cookies, snacks and more that are sold in 40,000 grocery stores, club stores and organic food retailers nationwide. The Austin, Texas-based company had $400 million in annual retail sales in 2023.

Siete was created to expand access to heritage-inspired, Mexican-American food, and its blockbuster exit represents a new era of offering products catering to various dietary restrictions to more people while inspiring other Latino-led businesses to build with cultural integrity.

Moreover, Garza has led a team that is focused on community, even empowering other entrepreneurs of color through its Juntos Fund, a $2 million commitment to affect positive change through collaboration and inclusivity. In 2023, Siete supported majority Latina-owned foodtrucks, bakeries and eateries across the country.
