Regenerative food brand Simpli is on trend and on track to make big waves in the food space. Founded in 2020 by Sarela Herrada and Matt Cohen, the company has pioneered its own supply chain network, bringing dozens of products to market that are sourced directly from farmers. Now, not only does the company act as an ingredient supplier to restaurants and other brands, but it is ramping up distribution of its own branded products.
Herrada and Cohen’s operation has created simple solutions to overly-complex supply problems and the company aims to source its food ingredients from regions where those items originated – like quinoa and amaranth from Peru’s Andean region. Born during a time of heightened supply chain awareness, Simpli has paired ethical and environmentally-friendly sourcing with over a dozen pantry staple products and supported indigenous farmers along the way.
Earlier this year, Simpli rolled out its Black Beans, Kidney Beans, Lupini Beans, Chickpeas, Quinoa (Red and Tri-colored), Amaranth and Gigante Beans to 500 Whole Foods stores nationwide. The company sells a variety of other beans and grains as well as two varieties of olive oil and three SKUs of Peruvian salt.
Beyond the brand, Simpli has also carved out space in over 1,000 foodservice accounts and its products are used in select menu items at sweetgreen, Everytable, Just Salad, &pizza, just to name a few, as well as by many other QSR, restaurant, college and university and catering businesses. Maximizing its impact does not end there – Simpli ingredients are also used in a range of manufactured foods including products sold by Daily Harvest, Splendid Spoon and Chubby Snacks.
