Creating premium products for national distribution takes more than just retail support and production capabilities, but Ithaca Hummus has shown us all once again that it is ready for the challenge. This year, the Rising Star expanded beyond its namesake chickpea dips and launched a line of Salsas in Mild, Medium and Hot, made with the same high pressure processing (HPP) method as its hummus.
The motivation? Create a clean-label, premium salsa that can scale to nationwide distribution– filling a gap in the market identified by both Ithaca and its primary retail partner Whole Foods. The brand has also refined its look and plans to roll out new clear tubs (replacing its opaque white containers) to give consumers an easier look at what is inside.
Over the years, Ithaca has pushed production and packaging boundaries and introduced cold-processing methods to hummus in order to create a cleaner label product. Its iconic square tubs have also served a unique purpose, standing out like a billboard among the typical round short containers in the hummus set and drawing new consumers into the category.
