Beanfields

Over the past two years salty snack brand Beanfields has undergone a whirlwind of change --  starting with an investment group -- led by firm Powerplant Ventures -- acquiring a controlling interest in the brand. Since then, the company has set up a relationship with nonprofit Homeboy Industries, completely rebranded and seen former Califia executive Arnulfo Ventura join as CEO. 

2019 was the first full year of Ventura’s tenure, under which the brand added five new flavors of chips. The additions are less than typical flavor additions for the tortilla set, along with jalapeno Lime, there’s a vegan Cheddar Sour Cream, Himalayan Salt & Vinegar, Spicy Queso, and Himalayan Pink Salt, drawing in consumers who are attracted to intense flavor combinations. 

Beanfields also refocused its marketing strategy, emphasizing slow and steady growth before taking on new accounts. The efforts have paid off with the company seeing 20 consecutive months of better year over year performance -- with its third quarter the best to date -- and an increase in velocities across the portfolio. The bold-flavored approach appears to be paying off.
