💪 Gutsiest Founder: Marc Washington, Founder, Supergut
Marketing a packet of fiber as an alternative to Ozempic is a gutsy move – and it’s paying off for Marc Washington, founder and CEO of Los Angeles-based Supergut. A former president and chief operating officer of fitness and weight loss brand Beachbody, Washington launched Supergut (previously Muniq) five years ago to honor his late sister’s legacy and empower consumers to “reclaim and sustain control over their bodies” while addressing the health disparities affecting multicultural communities.
The brand offers a line of research-backed wellness products based on resistant starch, a prebiotic fiber that feeds and strengthens good bacteria in the intestines, playing a role in controlling appetite, regulating blood sugar levels, improving mood, boosting immunity and more.
The surging popularity of GLP-1 medications prompted a new positioning for Supergut, as a companion or a substitute for the diabetes and weight loss drugs. Where so many food makers viewed the appetite suppressants as a threat, Washington spotted an opportunity; tapping into what he calls “the Ozempic era” has supercharged Supergut’s sales.
