Chicago-based Every Body Eat has been working toward its mission for equitable, accessible food since it was founded in 2020. After nearly four years on the market it has grown the business across three snack categories that are sold at retailers nationwide, but all of that wouldn’t have been possible without its secret ingredient.
Every Body Eat has taken an open and inclusive approach to staffing its production facility with the goal of supporting those who may have traditionally faced barriers to employment such as previously incarcerated individuals. That team has now grown from a handful of workers during the early days of the pandemic, to a tenured crew totalling nearly 30 that works across two shifts in its Chicago facility.
But the paycheck is just a part of Every Body Eat’s promise. Co-founders Nichole Wilson and Trish Thomas go the extra mile to support and stabilize their workforce whether that be from company-wide lunches to helping negotiate terms for a car lease. The team also pays its employees to attend courses that teach critical job skills as well as life skills such as personal finances, budgeting, health and more.
