seasonally fresh artisanal baby food straight to your door I recall sitting on the old 1950s counter in my grandmother's kitchen with the metal edge digging into my legs picking feathers out of a chicken butchered for dinner or grinding the end of a ham hock for our coveted ham spread on warm, yeasty home-made bread. Growing up in West Virginia with a country-cooking grandmother and a mother who carried on those traditions, I learned the importance of the freshest ingredients and how they were integral in making the best meals. Summer and Fall were always filled with canning wonderfully sweet pickles or crab apple jelly from freshly picked produce to fill my grandparent's cold dirt cellar for the winter. And, I can still feel the barbs of chestnut shells harvested from the back yard poking into my hands as we cleaned them for Thanksgiving dinner dressing. When our daughter was born, I wanted her to have the same opportunities and memories that I had as a child. After researching and reviewing the options on the market shelves for her first meals, I realized the best I could do for her was to make her food myself. I used primarily locally grown produce and meats at the peak of their freshness to develop her palate and help her to learn how the best fruits, vegetables and meats should really taste. I love that she prefers poached salmon and avocado to chicken nuggets and french fries. Today, our daughter wants to cook with me - cracking eggs for scrambled eggs, stirring a roux for homemade macaroni and cheese, or wisking together a salad dressing. My desire is Harvest to Highchair will give your little ones the same start I was able to give our daughter, opening their palate to enjoy the amazing flavors of the fruits and vegetables of South Carolina giving them the best start on their life-long love affair with food.
