Australian plant-based brand Milkadamia, which produces a line of dairy-free milks and creamers, this year made its first foray into food with the launch of nut-based butter-alternatives. Its Macadamia Buttery Spread appeared at the Winter Fancy Food Show in January and the company further refined the product before launching nationwide with Whole Foods Market in the fall.
With alternative dairy milks and creamers seeing explosive growth this year, the trend is increasingly making its way into foods, and while other plant-based butters like Miyoko’s and Earth Balance are already in stores, Milkadamia’s vegan version is palm oil-free and one of the few that uses rich, buttery macadamia nuts rather than more ubiquitous almonds or coconuts. The brand also focuses on regenerative agriculture -- sourcing nuts from its own family-run farms on Australia’s Eastern coast.
