SOMOS

Since its inception in 2021, SOMOS has dedicated itself to bringing fun and ease to weeknight meals while also working to make Mexican cuisine ubiquitous in American homes. The Austin, Texas-based company was co-founded by friends Daniel Lubetzky, Miguel Leal and Rodrigo Zuloaga and sells a range of ready-to-eat foods including beans, rice and burrito bowls. 

In just two years, SOMOS has built a portfolio of 23 ready-to-eat products that are available at over 8,000 retail locations nationwide including Whole Foods Market, Kroger, Albertsons and more. In particular, 2023 saw SOMOS expand its portfolio and distribution, including launching new rice, bean and salsa products and rolling out to all 1,800 Target locations nationwide. Though the company already sold pre-set meal “kits” online, the pickup by Target represented an expansion of that strategy into brick and mortar, and the mass retailer holds an exclusive. 

Venturing beyond food products, SOMOS also introduced Abuela AI, an AI and AR-powered platform designed to guide consumers through shopping in the grocery store and cooking in their own kitchens.
