Gallery: What’s New in Savory Snacks

Category enhancement and reinvention often comes into view through product innovations scheduled to be seen at Expo West. Here’s a look at the latest products that companies plan to use to redefine savory snacks options, including puffs, chips, crackers, meat snacks and more.

Pipcorn

Pipcorn

After unveiling a new line of corn chips and a rebrand at last year’s Expo East, salty snack producer Pipcorn will launch a new line of crackers. Made “sustainably” with leftover corn flour from the brand’s Heirloom Cheese Balls, the crackers will launch in Cheddar, Sea Salt and Everything varieties at an MSRP of $4.79. Pipcorn expects the line to launch in April 2020 in Whole Foods Markets nationwide.

Parm Crisps

Parm Crisps

The latest innovation from Parm Crisps is its new Snack Mix, combining the brand’s signature oven-baked cheese crisps with dry-roasted almonds, pistachios and cashews. The keto-friendly mix contains 10 grams of protein and 1 gram of sugar per serving. The line, available in Original, Ranch and Smoky Barbeque flavors, will hit retailers this summer for a suggested retail price of $6.99 per 6 oz. bag.

Munchy Pops

Munchy Pops

Superfood snack brand Munchy Pops has added two new flavors to its line of Water Lily Pops: Sizzling Peri-Peri and Smoky Barbecue. Both flavors are now available in packs of three on the brand’s website for $11.99. The brand also rolled out new packaging, which features brightly colored flowers inspired by India on a matte black background.

Ka-Pop

Ka-Pop

After a busy year which included appearing on television show “Shark Tank,” Ka-Pop launched a line of puffs in Red & Green Sriracha and Vegan Cheddar. Like its original line of puffed chips, the puffs do not contain corn, rice or wheat and are vegan. Made with sorghum, the puffs are available on the brand’s website now.

Snack Brigade

Snack Brigade

After launching with four flavors last year, Incredipuff maker Snack Brigade will release an Elote flavored option, the fifth SKU in its vegan puff line. The new gluten-free grilled Mexican street corn variety features flavors of Cotija style cheese, chili powder and lemon juice and contains 140 calories per serving.

Fat Snax

Fat Snax

Keto-focused snack brand Fat Snax will launch a line of low-carb almond flour crackers. Soon to launch in Original, Cheddar and Everything (But the Carbs!), the quest to develop a cracker with no carbs -- but also no artificial ingredients -- inspired the brand to bring on a new chef to assist with R&D. The brand also will launch a line of mini cookies, a more snackable, multi-serve version of the brand’s larger, single-serve cookies.

4505 Meats

4505 Meats

Meat snack producer 4505 Meats will bring two new flavors of Chicharrones to market: En Fuego Chicharrones and Sea Salt Chicharrones. In addition, the brand will bring a low-carb option to trail mix to market with a new Cheese-Chicharrones Snack Mix which contains bite-sized pieces of both 4505 chicharrones and cracklins alongside Whisps-brand Cheddar Cheese Crisps.

Hippie Snacks

Hippie Snacks

Building off the existing momentum of their Cauliflower Crisps & Avocado Crisps lines, which were launched in Fall 2018, Hippie Snacks will add a new Cheeze Cauliflower Crisp, which counts cauliflower as its first ingredient, alongside a new line of Almond Crisps. The latter, which is gluten-free and grain-free, has 5-6 grams of protein per serving and will be available in Sea Salt, Rosemary and Cheezy Chive.

34 Degrees

34 Degrees

Sweet and savory crisp brand 34 Degrees is launching Snaps, a gluten-free line of baked chickpea thins available in Sea Salt, Everything and Umami flavors and containing 3 grams of protein per serving. The new line will roll out in April in resealable 3.2 oz. pouches with a suggested retail price of $3.99.

Quinn Snacks

Quinn Snacks

Already offering shoppers pretzel rods, twists, sticks and peanut butter filled nuggets, Quinn Snacks will launch new paleo-friendly pretzels. Grain-free, non-GMO and vegan, the new pretzels maintain Quinn’s “farm to bag” ethos, allowing consumers to see the suppliers providing all ingredients.

Cutting Edge Foods

Cutting Edge Foods

To compliment its portfolio of meat snack brands, Cutting Edge Foods (which until October 2019 was known as Rotem Foods) has launched Real Snacks, a line of natural, premium meat sticks and beef bars. Available in Jalapeno Cranberry, Hot & Spicy, Original and Garlic & Herb, the line is already distributed in Piggly Wiggly, Tony's Finer Foods and LA Fitness locations.

Simple Mills

Simple Mills

For its take on the pita chip, Simple Mills will use no grains or sweeteners. The new Pita Crackers are the brand’s first snack to incorporate vegetables into the base and are vegan, nut-free and non-GMO. The line will be available in three flavors: Himalayan Salt, Mediterranean Herb and Roasted Red Pepper.
