ModernTable_FullWidthModern Table is ready to take center plate with a reformulation and rebranding of their protein pastas and meal kits, as well as the launch of a new line of mac-and-cheese.

The company was created by a group of parents working at foodservice brand Basic American Foods (BAF) in 2014. Since then, the brand has operated under, yet independently of, BAF.

Jennifer Eiseman, Cofounder and Brand Manager, said though the natural full-meal kit has seen success among millennials and fitness enthusiasts since its launch, the leadership team decided they were missing an opportunity to appeal to a broader demographic through the product’s taste.

“If you’re creating an alternative pasta, you’ve got to mimic the taste and texture of traditional pasta as much as possible,” she said.

The new pasta is a blend of lentils, rice and pea protein. After feedback from both retailers and customers, the company has also lowered the MSRP of the reformulated line from $5.99 to $3.49 at Target and Whole Foods. The company also lowered the MSRP on its meal kits from $6.99 to $4.99.

“As a food startup business, we were voracious learners, from people who tried our products, from customers who were generous with their feedback, from responses in social media, and from the families of our own team members,” Eiseman said. “The redesigned food and new products took all of that learning on board, and we’re proud to share the results.”

Change is something the brand has initiated both inside and out. The company also redesigned its package to be shelf-friendly and recyclable through designing company Hatch. “The challenge with our old bags is that they struggled to stand out on shelf,” Eiseman said. “The carton packaging is more shelf efficient, which was feedback we heard from our retail partners, and the simpler on pack messaging will help consumers understand what our product is immediately.”

Along with a new taste and look is also a new product line: better-for-you mac and cheese. The three flavors — classic cheddar, three cheese and jalapeno cheddar — are launching in Wegmans, Jewel, and Target and will retail for $2.99.
