Advanced Beverage Technologies
Overview: Founded in 1991, Advanced Beverage Technologies (“ABT”) is a privately held holding company with several subsidiary companies providing services and equipment to the beer, wine and spirits industries and specializing in de-alcoholization. While based in California, ABT operates in the USA, Spain, South Africa and Chile. ABT is seeking a new Vice President of Operations. He/She will report directly to ABT’s CEO with an indirect reporting line to ABT’s President. Approximately 20% travel is expected with a potential for additional travel in future years.
Responsibilities of the Vice President of Operations include worldwide leadership of our operations with a heavy emphasis on our service business. This role will also provide guidance to our R&D department, in coordination with the various departments and locations, on priorities, processes, lab setup, manpower, skills needed. In addition, the Vice President of Operations will assist in evaluating companies, technologies and equipment under consideration for distribution by our equipment business. Finally, this role will be considered a member of the executive team in working closely with the President, CEO and CFO in strategic discussions of the company including needs, opportunities and challenges. This is a critical role for the success and growth of the ABT family of companies.
Job functions include but may not be limited to:
Strategic Planning: Develop operational strategies in concert with the executive team (CEO, President and CFO) and the operations management team that will help the company grow and thrive.
Executive Team: Contribute to the articulation of strategic goals and objectives and work closely on a daily basis with the other members of the team (CEO, President and CFO) .
Budgeting: Working closely with the CFO, create the operations and cap exp budget and monitor costs, productivity and procurement. Evaluate and negotiate high dollar items acquisition.
Operations Monitoring: Review operations reports, run staff meetings to identify and address daily challenges and potential issues. Acquire a deep understanding of all processes, evaluate and implement improvements, define and eliminate bottlenecks and proactively work to identify new business or program opportunities.
Human Resources Tasks: Work with human resources to recruit, interview and hire new talent, develop strategies to retain top talent, contribute personnel policies and create training programs.
Safety: Together with the local management teams, monitor employee safety, ensure that machinery is properly maintained and create new safety protocols, as needed. Also maintain licensing and regulations compliance.
Business Development: Work closely with the Sales and Business Development team to ensure understanding of and planning for new products and programs. At times participate in activities including tradeshows, client meetings, presentations and other events as needed to promote growth and develop new business opportunities in North America and globally.
Site Visits: Visit existing plant visits periodically, assume ultimate responsibility for any expansion, upgrade, new site evaluation.
Work comfortably with people at all levels in the company, understand how to motivate and encourage staff. Be a strong leader, self-motivated and both focused on the minutiae without losing sight of macro-objectives.
Education and Experience
The ideal Vice President of Operations has a bachelor’s degree in engineering or mechanical engineering or organic chemistry or a related field and approximately 10 years of operational experience in the food and beverage industry with a preference for beer, wine or spirits
He/she has a deep understanding of supply chain and quality management.
If his/her experience has been acquired in a large company environment, he/she is able to adapt to a small/mid-market environment with limited resources. If his/her experience has been acquired in a small company environment, he/she understand what it takes to scale up.
