Position Summary:

If you are looking for a fast-paced, teamwork-oriented position at an explosively expanding brewery, look no further! Vermont Beer Makers is a 20 bbl brewhouse located in the heart of Springfield, Vermont. Currently producing 320 bbls a month and expanding rapidly, we are looking for a creative and detail-oriented Assistant Brewer to help our Head Brewer in all portions of the brewing process. Duties include and are not limited to: recipe development, material sourcing, equipment maintenance, brewhouse operations, cleaning, packaging, and cellaring.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work in conjunction with Head Brewer, management, brewery owners, and all employees to build and uphold the best product quality and brand image

  • Analyze craft beer trends to develop and test interesting, unique, and delicious recipes that satisfy consumer demand

  • Source high-quality brewing materials and maintain adequate inventories

  • Work with the Head Brewer to oversee the brewing process. Ensure existing recipes are followed accurately and that the beer is handled correctly at every stage of the brewing process, including during cellaring

  • Maintain and purchase brewing equipment as needed

  • Control product quality and uphold strict safety and hygiene standards. Ensure each brew adheres to the highest standards through both quantitative and qualitative testing

  • Maintain fastidious records on brewing data

  • Set production goals and identify key performance indicators

  • Run packaging lines and coordinate with sales and delivery fulfillment staff

  • Adhere to brewery budgeting and report results to management


  • Minimum of 2 years experience in the brewing industry

  • High school diploma or equivalent (higher education preferred)

  • Must be 21+

  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook 

  • Knowledge of brewery equipment mechanics/maintenance

  • Ability to manage projects and perform brewery duties independently and in teams

Additional Qualifications:

  • Degree in Food Science, Biology, Chemistry, or Chemical Engineering a huge plus

  • A passion for beer making and developing new beers

  • High level of written and verbal communication skills

  • Leadership skills, managerial skills, and the ability to motivate yourself and others

  • Creative problem-solving 

  • Dedication to continuous process improvement

Physical Requirements:

This position consistently requires the candidate to move large quantities of beer in a production environment that can vary between hot, cold, wet, dry, etc. Candidate must be able to consistently lift at least 30 lbs from ground level, stand for long periods of time, and be capable of kneeling, stooping, crouching, and crawling.
