Maltster Assistant

Position Summary:

The Maltster Assistant position is designed to teach the individual that is interested in the malting operation through hands-on experience of learning how to malt grains, operate grain machinery and assist Maltster with daily operations of the malting floor.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the operation of grain machinery and other equipment.
  • Assist with preventative maintenance on equipment, such as but not limited to, motors, pumps, pneumatic system, conveyer systems, and production machines.
  • Assist with inspecting and analyzing malt daily, monitor malting and roasting processes and assist with making operational changes to ensure malt meets specifications.
  • Assist with the milling and processing of grain.
  • Assist with the collection of grain samples for in-process quality control.
  • Responsible for the delivery of Bently Ranch grain and malt product to internal and external clientele. 
  • Resolve sales and/or delivery issues and expedites the resolution of customer complaints.
  • Greets all customers and provides them with prompt and courteous service or assistance.
  • Maintains working relationships with customers by, including but not limited to, concerning orders, invoices, shipments, and inventory counts in an efficient manner.
  • Assist with measuring and recording silo levels
  • Assist with conducting and reviewing inventory reviews of operating supplies.
  • Provides support to Maltster and other departments, as needed.
  • Ensure cleanliness and sanitation of compartments, interior and exterior of building and the product floor.  
  • Report to work as scheduled and on time
  • Other tasks or duties as assigned by supervision or management, that may be required to ensure the continued success of the company
  • Turn malt on malting floor as schedule requires.



    Special Licenses and/or Certificates:

    • Valid Driver’s license with ability to meet company’s insurance requirements
    • 10 Hour OSHA Card preferred

      Education and/or Experience:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required
  • College or Vocational school degree in related field preferred, but not required.

    Computer skills:

    • Basic knowledge of personal computers and peripherals, word processing and spreadsheet software, email and the Internet.

      Other Skills and Qualifications:

    • Must be 21 years old.
    • Proven ability to work with little to no supervision and follow directions.
    • Willingly accept guidance and supervision; follow work rules, safety practices, work procedures; meet deadlines, punctuality and attendance standards; work mandatory overtime, etc.
    • A team player and can be effectively utilize the resources provided by the team/company
    • Knowledge of safe equipment operation and safety rules.
    • Communicate information effectively in one-on-one, small, and large group situations to visitors, vendors, clients, and other employees of the company.

      Physical Demands:

      • Requires the ability to reach, bend, balance, lift and transport various objects weighing up to 50 lbs. repeatedly throughout the shift; product weight may reach 75 lbs.
  • Must be able to move heavy product with assistance.
  • Job requires standing, walking, and moving about for extended periods of time.
  • Pushing, pulling, grasping motions for extended periods of time are required.
