Hacienda Beer Co. is an experimental brewing project from the owners of Door County Brewing Co. Founded in 2017, Hacienda  focuses on creating modern, experimental beers,taking inspiration from our local heritage and the land around us.,. Every beer is brewed on our 15-barrel brewhouse in Baileys Harbor, WI and fermented either in stainless tanks in the same facility or in a variety of oak vessels down the street in our mixed fermentation facility. Through Hacienda, we are eager to push boundaries and challenge ourselves to bring you the most delicious and creative beer possible.

In addition to our brewhouse, we have two taprooms serving our beer—our Music Hall in Baileys Harbor and our  North Ave. Taproom in Milwaukee. These taprooms provide us with a direct feedback loop from our loyal customer base and give us the opportunity to tell our story through beer. Hacienda is distributed to select markets in Wisconsin and Illinois..

Head Brewer

 

The head brewer will oversee all aspects of beer production and must have a passion for and experience in brewing IPAs, Sours and Mixed Fermentation beers. Experience with a koelschip is a bonus as we are one of the only breweries in Wisconsin with one. 


We are looking for a team-oriented individual with:

- 5 years minimum professional brewing experience and minimum of 2 years of leadership experience and head brewer responsibilities

- Solid understanding of brewing theory and practice, plus great tasting skills - Brewhouse and cellar skills

- Interest/experience in a very wide variety of beer styles but primarily IPAs, sours and mixed fermentation

- Interest/capabilities in recipe formulation

- Good leadership, communication and organizational skills

- Must be available for some festivals and events outside of regular business hours

-Experience and proficiency in yeast management, particularly harvesting, storage, and re-pitching

-Ability to lead as well as be a part of a team

-Experience with brewery maintenance and upkeep

-Experience with keeping a regular preventative maintenance schedule

 


 

 


Key Responsibilities

?      Operation of a 15 bbl brew system with 15 and 30 bbl fermentation tanks, wort production, fermentation monitoring, yeast management, standard operating procedures, record keeping.

?      Inventory management and raw material purchasing

?      Oversee beer cellar and packaging operations

?      Oversee bottling and canning operations

?      Collaborate on the maintenance and implementation of QC and QA

?      Oversee plant maintenance, organization and cleanliness

?      Plan and implement brewing and production schedule

?      Manage brewing staff and schedule

?      Correspondence with sales in reference to distribution needs and feedback

?      Lead the relationship with our contract brewing operations for DCBC

?      Warehouse maintenance

?     Collaborate on recipe development for new offerings and one-offs

?      Enforce safety and compliance with the department of agriculture

?      Training of new staff when required

?      Representation of brand at festivals and events both on and off site



 

Qualifications

?      Passion for craft beer

?      Management experiencing in a production brewery 2000+ bbls per year

?      Recipe development experience. Pilot batching

?      Advanced practical brewing knowledge

?      Ability to manage all aspects a brewing operation

?      Ability to schedule and manage production and production staff

?      Bottling or canning line experience

?      Able to work a flexible schedule when necessary

?      Working knowledge with EKOS, google drive and calendar

?      Strong references, organizational skills and cleanliness

?      Understanding of health and safety compliance and implementation

?      Physical ability to be on feet for long periods of time and lift at least 55lbs
